The festival is focused on giving promoters, musicians, artists and DJ's the chance showcase their talents and show exactly what Cardiff's music scene is all about! With the added bonus of being Free entry!
This year Sŵn presents will be hosting a stage on Friday 18th January 2013. The acts chosen for this showcase are local acts who we love and have had the privilege of working with in the past. It's going to be a cracking night and we're putting on a few surprise guest DJ's to go on until the early hours! So come and have a party with us!!
The line-up is as follows:
WE'RE NO HEROES -
Citing a diverse range of influences – from electronic to afrobeat – Heroes are a very impressive bunch reflecting indie-pop rhythms by the likes of Two Door Cinema Club. They’re two EPs already to their name, with the summery single Ghost Coast out last July.
FIST OF THE FIRST MAN -
Fist of The Man is the new side project by music producer, film scorer and all round grafter Zwolf. Alongside his band of brothers The Trent Roberto Kid, Duke Marafflion and Artemus Deadly, Zwolf’s Fist of the First Man released their self-titled debut in early 2012, instantly making them an act to take heed of. The album is littered with tracks that could dexterously fit on the Drive soundtrack, Streets of Rage or during tense moments on Masterchef. Their aesthetic live performances are a joy to behold.
DRAW ME STORIES -
Formed in early 2008, Carl Hodgetts, Samuel Souter and Mathieu Albasser began life playing folky-acoustic numbers.
But following their 2010 double A-side Oars/Becomes The Hunted, they showed their flexibility with a more jazzy and dubstep feel than on previous EPs. They proclaim that the new sound falls somewhere between art-rock, folk and dance, and it’s impossible to argue with them. Their debut album Cocoon Machina is set for release on the 10th December, in perfect time for the show!
This unsigned vocalist from Cardiff is certainly one to watch. She may have only a handful of recordings under her belt, but Esther Taylor’s live set promises a showcase of spine-tingling emotion. Her most recent track, Deep Blue, demonstrates her unique vocal abilities: delicately ethereal one minute, dazzlingly powerful the next. The Room features a laid-back groove to die for.
