WILLY MASON is a singer songwriter that needs no introduction....
On Tuesday 5th March 2013 WILLY MASON will be playing a very special show at the Glee Club, Cardiff Bay. WILLY MASON has played Cardiff on several occasions and still wows us every time with his unique and honest songwriting ability. We're huge fans at Sŵn and this will no doubt sell in super quick time.
You may have seen WILLY on tour with the likes of Radiohead, Death Cab for Cutie, Ben Howard and Mumford & Sons. Although if you are unfamiliar with his music fear not, WILLY MASON's new material will no doubt catch your ear and leave you wanting more. He once sang the song about wanting to be better than oxygen and cooler than TV and then became a popular singer and sang the song about having to save himself and then did just that and went home to his momma. All this of course didn't change the fact that writing a song is his favorite thing to do and singing a song is the best way he knows how to get through to people. He releases his much anticipated third studio album ‘Carry On’ on December 3rd 2012. Which will be WILLY’s first release on Fiction Records, home to Elbow, The Maccabees and White Lies amongst many others. We rest our case...
The Mariner’s Children include members of Peggy Sue, Laura Marling, Sons of Noel and Adrian, Alessi’s Ark, and Eyes & No Eyes. Drawing inspiration from Chris Taylor’s (Grizzly Bear) approach to production, Angels of Light, and Pentangle amongst others, their music has at the same time all the immense instrumentation of Arcade Fire and the subtlety of the likes of Iron & Wine and Bonnie Prince Billy. Songs drift from sparse, delicate understatement to thunderous intensity in the blink of an eye. Lyrically, Benedict Rubinstein creates incredible confessional tales, often with an underlying darkness. “I’ve no wish to die, I’ve no wish to leave your side, but if I go before you then heed these words of mine- let my flesh feed the sycamore tree, in its arms you can climb if you ever feel you’re missing me.”
SIOBHAN WILSON (Solo)
Siobhan Wilson presents her new EP, Glorified Demons. This independent release showcases a unique and accomplished talent with a remarkable sense of beauty. It was recorded in the bedroom of Gordon Skene (Frightened Rabbit, The Moth and the Mirror), who produced and plays on the record. Glorified Demons showcases songs that are true to their own taste and passion.
Siobhan’s story begins in Scotland, whilst studying classical music at school by day and prying apart her father’s record collection by night. The likes of Joni Mitchell, John Martyn and Nina Simone informed her inquisitive young ears, and the likes of Regina Spektor and Madeline Peyroux inspired the music you can hear today. A well travelled and manifold artist, she has led a musical life in various places: In France, where she relinquished the classical world for a burgeoning interest in jazz, immersing herself in the music of Thelonious Monk and Ella Fitzgerald, and the United States, where she recorded her first record in the musically fertile ground of Woodstock.
