*LATE SHOW - DJANGO DJANGO will be on stage at 23:00
DJANGO DJANGO -
Funnily enough, if you put those things in a blender and add a dash of Animal Collective and a handful of Stone Roses, what you’ll end up with is the Edinburgh neo-psychedelic art-pop quartet Django Django. A band so good they named them twice. The inventive four-piece amalgamate African tribal sounds with experimental drumbeats to create something completely special; indie by numbers it ain’t. Their infectious self-titled debut album was an instant classic and their colourful live set is a joy to behold. Seeing is believing.
EGYPTIAN HIP HOP -
A buzz band before they’d all turned 17, this quartet’s Hudson Mohawke-produced debut EP posses confident electro-pop.
Signed to R&S, they’ve grown; with more synth-heavy, dark and dense tunes.
Gruff Rhys isn’t the only Super Furry Animal that can get enjoyment with uber-fun side-projects; bassist Guto Pryce is also getting in on the action, with his new homespun project
Assisted by Scottish born singer-songwriter Lindsey Leven, Gulp are organically making cinematic, futuristic music that can’t really be compared with any of the SFA back catalogue. There has been a real buzz about their first single Game Love, and there has also been a buzz surrounding this space disco side project of Guto’s live set-up.
Ar ol rhyddhau y record 7″ Game Love yn ddiweddar, mae Gulp wedi landio gyda caneuon gwych sy’n benthyg o electro ac yn drwm ar y bas, gyda llais yr hyfryd Lindsey Leven yn Sŵnio yn wych
WILD SWIM -
Precious without being pretentious, Oxford’s Wild Swim create moods and textures that unsettle brilliantly. Vocals are chopped and layered and synth waves mesh with clattering beats. For fans of Efterklang or Cardiff’s own Among Brothers.
