Sunday 30 March
Membury Service Station, M4, UK
This is the entrance to Membury Service Station on the M4 motorway.
I make a bundle of New Year's resolutions every year, the idea being that if I make, say, 30 resolutions, I might achieve about a third of them.
One of this year's is to be able to jump and touch the roof of the entrance to Membury Service Station.
This might seem like an odd resolution. It is. It came about because for some unknown reason on one visit I tried to jump and touch the roof here. It looked like it would be within my grasp - but it wasn't. I've since stopped at this Services and failed, repeatedly, to touch the roof. So I thought I'd make it a New Year's Resolution to succeed.
I have discovered that you can do exercises to improve your ability to jump. Some of these I do whilst waiting in line at the bank, or the bus stop, or whatever. I'm hoping, that by the end of the year, I'll be able to touch the roof.
Today, stupidly, I took this photo then FORGOT to have a go at jumping! What a wasted opportunity eh? Try it yourself, and please feel free to keep me posted if you're successful.
I wasn't at Membury just to see how my jumping was coming on. I was here because I was on my way to Luton to catch a flight to Zurich. As I arrived at airport security I took a call from my credit card company to tell me my card had been reported as being copied, so it was being cancelled. What timing! I'm just about to board a plane and I'm suddenly credit-card-less. At least somehow they had been informed before I discovered I was the owner of a yacht or something. It remains to be seen how much, if any, has been spent on it... I'll find out when I get home.
I get through departures and my plane is boarding 45 minutes late. I get on the plane, and we're told it'll be another hour's delay. Joy. Fortunately I've bought the new copy of Word Magazine, and it's Sunday, so I have the Observer. It takes exactly the duration of one flight delay plus flight time to Zurich to read both. I love Word magazine, though I notice they have tried to dismiss our Sleeveface fun with a limp 'Wordface' feature on their website. I thought better of them than that. Poor show.
I've got a day to trawl around Zurich tomorrow. I'll be aiming for the record stores of course...
